Who we are
Ohoskin® is an innovative Italian company founded in 2019 by Adriana Santanocito, a textile designer and pioneer in sustainable materials; Stefano Mazzetti, an engineer and expert in development and operations with experience in the automotive sector; and Roberto Merighi, a chemist, who contributed to the development of the articles now in our catalog. We have developed and patented an alternative material to animal and synthetic leather, made from by-products of Sicilian oranges and cactus. Founded with the goal of combining sustainability and innovation, Ohoskin® positions itself as a strategic partner for fashion, furniture, and design brands that want to integrate responsible materials into their products without compromising aesthetics and performance.

Is Ohoskin® patented?
Yes, Ohoskin® is covered by a patent that protects both the production process and the technical characteristics of the material. We have patented two product families:
- With bio-attributed resins, ideal for applications in automotive, nautical, and furniture industries.
- With bio-based resins, more flexible and suitable for the fashion and footwear industries.
Where is Ohoskin® produced?
Ohoskin® is entirely produced in Italy. Thanks to established partnerships with Italian companies, we keep our entire supply and production chain within the country. This allows us to ensure direct control, transparency, and high-quality standards throughout the supply chain, enhancing Italian territory and its Sicilian agricultural excellence.
How does the production process work?
Our patented process transforms Sicilian orange and cactus by-products into an innovative alternative to leather. We use a proprietary formula that integrates bio-based and bio-attributed resins, in line with circular economy principles. The result is a durable, high-quality, and versatile material for various applications.
Is the production process scalable?
Yes, our process has been developed to be scalable and flexible. By collaborating with third-party facilities, we can expand production to meet global demand without compromising quality. This strategy allows us to be flexible and responsive, scaling production according to market needs while maintaining quality control and competitive delivery times. We can increase production capacity and customize the material based on required volumes and the specific needs of the industries we work with.
Is the supply chain traceable and Made in Italy?
Absolutely yes. The entire supply chain is traceable and Made in Italy, thanks to partnerships with local suppliers who share our quality, sustainability, and transparency standards.
What is the competitive advantage?
Ohoskin® has a unique competitive advantage thanks to two proprietary patents. The combination of citrus by-products and bio-based or bio-attributed resins sets us apart from synthetic and animal alternatives in terms of durability and sustainability. What certifications does Ohoskin® have, and what quality standards does it meet?
Ohoskin® complies with REACH regulations and, through our partners, meets ISO and PROP65 standards. It is phthalate-free and holds the PETA certification and the VVV+ Animal-Free Fashion label from the Anti-Vivisection League (LAV). The percentage of bio-based materials is certified through C14 analysis. The bio-attributed resins are certified by the Roundtable for Sustainable Biomaterials (RSB). We also align with the United Nations’ 2030 Agenda Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and have calculated our carbon footprint to measure and reduce our environmental impact. What is Ohoskin®?
Ohoskin® is an innovative, sustainable material, an alternative to animal leather, created from by-products of Sicilian red oranges and cactusi. It offers the look and feel of premium leather, with high technical performance and durability. It combines Italian manufacturing identity with a sustainable vision, providing a responsible solution for fashion, automotive, and furniture industries.
What does the name “Ohoskin®” mean?
The name Ohoskin® encapsulates the essence of our material:
- “OHO” stands for Orange and Opuntia (prickly pear), the two key ingredients.
- The central “H” symbolizes the innovation that unites these elements in an exclusive formula.
- “Skin” refers to the concept of a protective coating: just as skin protects our body, Ohoskin® protects animal life and enhances agricultural by-products, offering a second life with style and functionality.
Why orange and cactus?
Orange and cactus are the symbolic fruits of our land, Sicily. Every year, over 1.3 million tons of by-products from these crops represent a significant economic and environmental cost for the island. By creating a sustainable, vegan material from these waste products, we aim to give them new life, supporting the territory and the planet. Additionally, cacti are highly resistant to high temperatures and require very little water, making them one of the most sustainable crops available.
What is Ohoskin®’s composition?
Ohoskin®’s distinctive feature is its composition: the material is born from the union of Sicilian orange and cactus byproducts and advanced biopolymers, creating a durable, soft-touch, and refined-looking solution. Compared to other vegan alternatives, Ohoskin® stands out for its circular origin and high technical performance, making it suitable for luxury leather goods, footwear, furniture, and automotive applications.Ohoskin® comes in two product families: one based on bio-based resins and the other with bio-attributed resins. We have developed 18 articles (9 per product family), each with specific compositions for fashion, footwear, furniture, automotive, and nautical industries. Why is Ohoskin® more sustainable than leather or other materials?
Ohoskin® is sustainable in many ways: It uses only plant-based waste from existing crops, requiring no additional farmland. The main ingredient is 100% bio-based. It employs bio-based or bio-attributed resins and low-impact processes. It has a significantly lower carbon footprint compared to chrome-tanned animal leather and synthetic alternatives (data independently measured by Climate Partner). What is the percentage of bio-based material in Ohoskin®?
The percentages vary depending on the product family:
- Up to 75-80% bio-based content in products with bio-based resins.
- Up to 43% bio-based content in products with bio-attributed resins.
Is Ohoskin® animal-free?
Yes, Ohoskin® is completely vegan. No animal-derived materials are used in any production phase. It is PETA-certified and has received the highest VVV+ rating from the Anti-Vivisection League for Animal-Free Fashion. Read more on our BLOG here.

Is Ohoskin® durable?

Can I buy Ohoskin®? How?
Yes, you can purchase Ohoskin® directly from our online shop at www.ohoskin.com/shop, where samples are available starting from one linear meter. The roll has a standard height of 1.4 meters, so 1 linear meter equals 1.4 square meters. For orders between two and ten linear meters, please email us at sales@ohoskin.com, our team will gladly assist you. If you’re considering an industrial supply or a larger order, we’ll be happy to guide you in selecting the best solution for your needs.
What are the material’s characteristics?
Ohoskin® is supplied in rolls with a standard height of 1.4 meters and can be produced in different textures, thicknesses, and colors. Our catalog is constantly expanding: thanks to new industrial partnerships, we now also offer an expanded version for the footwear sector and an exclusive, tailor-made variant designed for high-fashion brands. Is Ohoskin® available in custom colors?
Yes. Each product line has a wide, constantly updated color palette. If you need a specific shade or texture, we can customize it upon request. To proceed, we require the Pantone references of the desired color and/or a physical sample. Once received, we’ll conduct material tests, usually completed in 7–10 working days. What is the minimum order quantity (MOQ)?
For in-stock products, there is no minimum order. For custom productions:
- Bio-based resin materials: Minimum 100 linear meters.
- Bio-attributed resin materials: Minimum 200 linear meters.
How much does Ohoskin® cost?
Sample prices are listed directly in our online shop. If you wish to purchase more than one linear meter or need a tailored quote for a bulk order, email sales@ohoskin.com. Thanks to our industrial setup, we can offer competitive pricing, cost per meter decreases as order volume increases.

How long does it take to receive an order?
Delivery times depend on order quantity, destination, and shipping method. Generally:
- Online shop orders / in-stock products: Shipped within about two weeks.
- Custom productions: 4/6 weeks processing time.
Can you produce large quantities?
Yes, we can handle industrial-scale supplies. Thanks to our manufacturing partners, we can produce several thousand linear meters per month. Additionally, our raw material supply is guaranteed: Italy is Europe’s second-largest orange producer and the world’s third-largest cactus producer, with Sicily as the main cultivation area for both crops.
