From the heart of Sicily, where citrus scents fill the air and the sun ripens extraordinary fruits, comes Ohoskin®: an innovative material that transforms orange peels and cactus into a sustainable, cruelty-free alternative to leather. A quiet but powerful revolution that recently caught the attention of India’s leading sustainability platform, Sustainable Tea with Shreya, now featured in a video that has already inspired thousands worldwide.
We were honored to welcome Shreya Ghodawat – climate activist, India Ambassador for Project Dandelion and the Plant Based Treaty, and host of Sustainable Tea with Shreya, one of India’s top sustainability podcasts. Her visit was an opportunity to share not only our material, but also the values and vision behind it.
Don’t call it vegan leather: Ohoskin® is so much more
Ohoskin® was born from a simple yet powerful idea: what if agricultural waste could become luxury fabrics? Every year in Sicily, tons of orange and prickly pear peels are discarded. Ohoskin® recovers their value, turning them into an elegant, durable material suitable for fashion, interiors and automotive design.

From fashion to electric cars: The Microlino case
In the video, Shreya explores one of the most compelling examples of Ohoskin® in action: the interiors of Microlino, the electric city car blending retro aesthetics with cutting-edge technology. Every detail is designed to be sustainable without compromising on comfort or elegance. A strong signal: the shift to circular, fossil-free design is already underway.

A response to criticism of leather alternatives
One of the most common concerns about leather alternatives is durability. But Ohoskin® proves otherwise: it’s durable, moisture-resistant, and tested for real-world use in demanding environments like car interiors. In this case, sustainability is not a compromise – it’s an added advantage that doesn’t sacrifice performance.
🔍 Want proof? Ask us for the results of our Martindale, Junke test, and Xenon tests. We’re proud to share our transparent data.
Another striking fact from the interview: traditional animal leather can emit up to 110 kg of CO₂ per square meter, while Ohoskin® emits only 2.57 kg. That’s not just a number — it’s a paradigm shift that challenges the entire fashion and design production system.

The production process
Ohoskin® combines materials science with Italian manufacturing know-how. Orange peels are micronized, mixed with plant-based bio-resins and processed into resistant Ohoskin® rolls. The material can be embossed, colored, and customized, even replicating exotic textures like crocodile skin, without any cruelty.

A Name with a vision
Ohoskin® blends “Oho” from orange and Opuntia, the cactus variety used in the process. It reflects a vision where innovation begins with the land, local agriculture, and raw natural resources, transforming them into beauty, function and environmental respect.
“Sustainability means a design that aligns with your values,” says Shreya in the video.
And Ohoskin® embodies just that – a material that helps designers and brands tell a new story: one of respect, creativity, and regeneration.
